Activate your creativity! Join our team!

Activate is a drama group for young people aged 9 – 16. Our aim is to encourage members to gain confidence in public speaking and performance and develop a passion for theatre and performing arts. No previous acting experience is necessary. Our highly dedicated team includes professionally trained actors who are experienced in running youth theatre. Above all, we are a friendly and dynamic company where drama is fun and learning about theatre is enjoyable.

We meet every Sunday from 5pm to 7pm at the St Margaret’s Institute which has a beautiful hall and excellent facilities. The Institute is located on Polstead Road, central north Oxford.

We offer 12 weekly sessions of theatre workshops and rehearsals leading to an end of term production that is performed to parents, relatives and friends. The workshops include:

Theatre Games
Physical Theatre / Movement
Song and Dance
Voice Training
Costume and Make Up

These sessions are combined with rehearsals for our end of term showpiece. This will normally be a play by a well known writer, for example

Lewis Carroll – Alice in Wonderland

Shakespeare – Extracts from a Midsummer Night’s Dream

Alan Ayckbourn – Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations

The end of term production will include full costume and make up. All Activate members will participate fully, often playing multiple roles.

Activate members will also be encouraged, through teamwork, to devise their own short performance pieces that may be incorporated into the end of term production.
